Scheduling and Using Lab Space in Howarth Basement

Read these policies before scheduling lab space for research.

  1. You must have IRB approval and instructor’s approval before submitting scheduling requests. Consult with your instructor regarding obtaining special equipment that you might need.
  1. Submit scheduling requests using on-line form at least 48 hours in advance, preferably earlier. Use the Lab Schedule Binder (large purple binder outside psychology department door) regarding room/lab availability, but do not write in the book itself. Do not contact individuals in charge of labs in person or by phone. Confirmation will be sent to you via e-mail within one or two days.
  2. Make requests in a single block whenever possible. You do need to make separate requests for different rooms, however.
  3. If you have to cancel a confirmed room reservation, please contact the lab/room manager.
  4. All labs must be locked when not in use.  Between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., you may request that Rita unlock labs that have been scheduled.  If you are scheduled after 5:00 p.m., you will need security clearance.  Rita will contact security for Howarth 005 and 011. See your instructor about security clearance for other labs.
  5. The alarm on Howarth 011 must be re-set when you leave. Call Security Services to do that (x3311).
  6. If you rearrange a room, you must return the furniture to its original position before you leave.
  7. Hallway furniture must be returned to its original position if you’ve moved it.
  8. Do not remove journals, books, equipment, or other materials from any lab.
  9. Do not close the hallway door to the 003 suite or create obstructions that interfere with regular department activities in the hallway.
  10. No eating in labs (we have mice), and clean up behind your experiment.
  11. Quiet, please. Excessive noise interferes with classes and/or creates disruption in faculty offices.
  12. Before using the equipment in some lab spaces it is necessary to meet with the laboratory manager to ensure proper equipment usage. For instance, you can not use the computers in 003D without first meeting with Mark Reinitz.
