Open Source Software currently used in academic technologies at Puget Sound:

Eclipse 3.0

Open source software development project dedicated to providing a robust, full-featured, commercial-quality, industry platform for the development of highly integrated tools.

Cygwin

Cygwin is a Linux-like environment for Windows

CygwinX

Cygwin/X consists of an X Server, X libraries, and nearly all of the standard X clients, such as xterm, xhost, xdpyinfo, xclock, and xeyes. Cygwin/X, as the name implies, uses the Cygwin project which provides a UNIX-like API to Xlib and X clients, thereby minimizing the amount of porting required.

Linux

Open source version of UNIX operating system.  (And all the open source associated with that - Mozilla, etc.)

PDF Creator Ghost Script

(Installs with PDF Creator which easily creates PDFs from any Windows program. Use it like a printer in Word, StarCalc or any other Windows application)

An interpreter for the PostScript (TM) language, with the ability to convert PostScript language files to many raster formats, view them on displays, and print them on printers that don't have PostScript language capability built in;

An interpreter for Portable Document Format (PDF) files, with the same abilities;

The ability to convert PostScript language files to PDF (with some limitations) and vice versa; and

A set of C procedures (the Ghostscript library) that implement the graphics capabilities that appear as primitive operations in the PostScript language.

Print File

Post Script file printing.

MikTEX

(to be installed on the next image, due to the problems with PCTek.)

MiKTeX (pronounced mick-tech) is an up-to-date implementation of TeX and related programs for Windows (all current variants) on x86 systems. TeX is a typesetting system.

SWI Prolog

Comprehensive Free Software Prolog environment, licensed under the Lesser GNU Public License.

Python 2.3.4

Python is an interpreted, interactive, object-oriented programming language. It is often compared to Tcl, Perl, Scheme or Java.

Anachrophilia

4.0/5.0 (HTML editor)

GAP 4r3 (Math).

GAP (Groups, Algorithms and Programming) is a system for computational discrete algebra with particular emphasis on, but not restricted to computational group theory.

NetTime (NTP client)

NetTime is a simple time synchronization client for Windows 95/98/NT/2000. Its main claim to fame is that it is small, simple and unobtrusive.

From http://nettime.sourceforge.net:

Note that Windows XP and Windows 2000 include a full-featured NTP client out of the box, and it's a free download from Microsoft for Windows NT. There is longer any no good reason to use NetTime on Windows NT, 2000 or XP.

GLUT 3.73

GLUT (pronounced like the glut in gluttony) is the OpenGL Utility Toolkit, a window system independent toolkit for writing OpenGL programs. It implements a simple windowing application programming interface (API) for OpenGL. GLUT makes it considerably easier to learn about and explore OpenGL programming. GLUT provides a portable API so you can write a single OpenGL program that works on both Win32 PCs and X11 workstations.

GLUT is designed for constructing small to medium sized OpenGL programs. While GLUT is well-suited to learning OpenGL and developing simple OpenGL applications, GLUT is not a full-featured toolkit so large applications requiring sophisticated user interfaces are better off using native window system toolkits like Motif. GLUT is simple, easy, and small. My intent is to keep GLUT that way.

Netpath 2.13 (Geology).

NETPATH is an interactive Fortran 77 computer program used to

interpret net geochemical mass-balance reactions between initial and

final waters along a hydrologic flow path.

Melts (Linux app for Geology).

Melts is a software package for modeling crystallization of magmatic systems.
