Een abel spel van Esmoreit
1997, performed in the Netherlands and in Italy (Camerino)
This famous Dutch 'Abel Spel' is a melange of fourteenth-century
royal tragedy, oriental fantasy, biblical reminiscence and folk tale. It
deals with the exciting, blood-curdling and touching adventures of Sicily's
crown prince who is kidnapped and nearly killed as a baby, who is brought
up by an Oriental princess and who, in the end, manages to find back his
parental court.
The king and the queen of Sicily lament for the dissappearance of their baby-son; a treacherous cousin who was previously the pretender to the throne, wants to make the king believe that the queen killed her child.
Robbrecht, the king's treacherous cousin, imprisons the falsely accused queen.
