Pie Charts

Pie charts create a visual representation that helps students understand the relationships and meanings of numbers. Pie charts are especially useful in representing proportions, percents, and fractions. Creating charts in spreadsheets is easy and fun. Students enjoy changing formatting options such as the segment colors, making the pie 3-D, using an exploding segment, and creating titles.

Highlight the information you want on the chart. Include title information. Click, hold down the mouse button, and drag the mouse to highlight information.

 

Follow the 5 steps in the Chart Wizard

• Step 1 Check the selected data that is organized in column. Hit the (Next>) button.

• Step 2 Select chart type. Select a pie chart. Hit the (Next>) button.

• Step 3 Select format for chart type. Select #7 if you want percent labels. Hit the (Next>) button.

• Step 4 Select data for labels. Use the number 1 for the column choice. This will be the label for the X axis. Use the number 0 for the row choice. This will indicate the chart title. Hit the (Next>) button.

• Step 5 Create legend and titles. Decide if you need a legend. Hit the FINISH button.
