WelcomeThe Health Professions Advising Program provides special career counseling, committee interviews, letters of evaluation and application assistance for students who aspire to careers in the health professions. Advising services are not limited to medicine; students interested in dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, nursing, podiatry, pharmacy and allied health careers are encouraged to use the services of the Health Professions Advising Program. Students interested in occupational therapy or physical therapy should contact Puget Sound's School of Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy. Wayne L. Rickoll, Ph.D., Biology, serves as chair of the Health Professions Advising Committee. Over twenty faculty members from many campus departments comprise this committee. They may serve as academic advisors or informal advisors for students majoring in their discipline. These faculty members also interview and evaluate students as they go through the application process. Joyce Tamashiro, Ph.D., Biology is an advisor and committee member of the Health Professions Advising Committee. Joyce is available to advise and answer questions on Health Professions careers, course planning and requirements for specific professions. Please email her with questions. Prospective applicants are encouraged to make early contact with Kathleen Samms in the Health Professions Office. Following an initial consultation Kathy, will refer students to a Health Professions Advisor. Though students will primarily work with an advisor in their major, those who are interested in the health professions will also work with the Health Professions Office to create a file. We encourage you to begin a file with our office as soon as possible. |
