John Hickey

The Office of the Executive Director of Community Engagement and Associate Vice President for Business Services is located on the first floor of Jones Hall, Room 104.

Mission

As the Executive Director of Community Engagement, John Hickey works with President Thomas and other campus leaders on broad matters of civic engagement strategic planning. In this role he helps create and support meaningful intersections between Puget Sound and the greater Tacoma community as a liaison with the city and various government agencies, departments, and committees and with business districts, neighbors, civic organizations, and community leaders.

As the AVP for Business Services, John Hickey supervises the department heads for the Bookstore, Copy Services, Dining and Conference Services, Mail Services, and Security Services.

He also manages the university's programs involving insurance/risk management, safety/health, hazardous/radioactive/infectious waste management, and disability compliance. He facilitates the cost-effective delivery of high-quality business services in support of Puget Sound's mission. He also manages property acquisition and co-chairs the university's Sustainability Advisory Committee. John oversees revenue and expense budgets of about $30,000,000 for all Business Services programs. The AVP for Business Services communicates with students, faculty and staff with regard to issues, questions and concerns involving student services and projects.
