Whitman Takes Third By Blanking Boxers

YAKIMA, Wash. - Following a marathon match to conclude action on Friday night, the Whitman Missionaries had enough gas left in the tank to hold off the Pacific Boxers, 6-0, to take third place at the 2009 Northwest Conference Women's Tennis Championship on Saturday morning at the Yakima Tennis Club in Yakima, Wash.

Whitman took the early lead by sweeping through doubles play. The number two team of Divneet Kaur and Margo Lentz posted the biggest win of the morning, defeating Dayna Wong and Jamie Yoshino, 8-2.

In singles play, Whitman continued to roll. The closest match came in the second position as Hadley DeBree held off Megan Yoshimoto, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0. Katie Oost and Kaur cruised in their singles matches, both winning 6-0, 6-0 as Whitman clinched the match.

The Missionaries finish in third place in the final Northwest Conference standings while the Boxers take fourth, their highest finish since 1999.
