'Cats Win Marathon Match To Reach NWC Final

YAKIMA, Wash. - For the Linfield Wildcats and Whitman Missionaries, Friday night's match felt like a marathon but in the end, the 'Cats reigned victorious, defeating Whitman, 5-1, in a Northwest Conference Women's Tennis Championship Semifinal at the Yakima Tennis Club in Yakima, Wash.

The two teams continued their close play from the regular season into the doubles portion of the match, with Linfield earning a slight edge, 2-1, to take a lead into singles play.

With daylight running out, the singles matches were moved under the lights. With two singles matches done, the teams were dealt a blow when the lights went out at the outdoor facility and the squads were forced to pack up and head to the indoor facility a little over a mile away to conclude the match.

The match came down to a showdown between number ones as Linfield's Sallie Katter outlasted Whitman's Elis Otto to clinch the shortened match for the Wildcats.

Linfield advances to play Whitworth in the NWC Tournament Final while the Missionaries will take on Pacific in the Third Place Game beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
