Lutes Advance To Title Game With 6-2 Win

YAKIMA, Wash. - It took a comeback effort in singles play but the Pacific Lutheran Lutes defeated the Linfield Wildcats, 6-2, to advance to the final of the 2009 Northwest Conference Men's Tennis Championship on Friday afternoon at the Yakima Tennis Club in Yakima, Wash.

In doubles play, the Lutes cruised to an 8-0 victory at the number one doubles postion as the team of Justin Peterson and Joel Trudel collected an 8-0 win over Walt James and Brett Kingzett. The 'Cats made it a contest heading into the singles play by winning the numbers two and three doubles matches.

In singles play, the Lutes took control, winning five singles matches to take the 6-2 win. Linfield's closest match came in the fifth spot as Zack AhYat held of Tal DeWitt, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to get the win.

The Lutes now advance to the NWC title game for the 18th consecutive season while the Wildcats will play for third place on Saturday morning.
