Letter from Head Baseball Coach Brian Billings

Thank you very much for your interest in the University of Puget Sound and Logger Baseball. UPS offers a unique opportunity to earn a degree from one of the top Liberal Arts University in the nation and compete for a successful college baseball program. Puget Sound not only offers a beautiful campus and an outstanding education, but personal classroom settings in which the student to professor ratio is 19:1. The average class size is approximately 12 students. Our campus is reminiscent of an Eastern Ivy League school, with gorgeous, ivy-covered red brick buildings set in a quiet, historic, residential part of Tacoma. Tacoma is surrounded by the Puget Sound Waterway, and situated 60 miles from beautiful Mt. Rainier, which dominates the skyline. Seattle is only 30 minutes away, with plenty of culture and entertainment when you need a change of pace. In addition, the UPS athletic facilities are outstanding. Logger Field(completed in spring of 1999) is one of the best facilities in the conference. The state of the art facilities are up to date with NCAA regulations, including batting cages, hitting areas, bullpens, and a clubhouse. UPS offers a functional indoor facility, complete with hitting cages, indoor mounds, a large hitting net, several screens, and plenty of room. Clearly, the University of Puget Sound offers a complete college experience.

As a Coaching Staff, we believe in hard work and dedication. We believe in taking a tremendous amount of pride in the uniform that you wear and the college that you represent. We believe in playing the game the "right" way. In other words, we expect our players to fight and battle until the final pitch. We are looking for supremely competitive individuals who want a great education and a winning baseball experience. If you fit these criteria and you are interested in the University of Puget Sound, please fill out our Online Student-Athlete Baseball Questionnaire. Open tryouts are held each year in September at the beginning of our Fall-Ball program and in January for 2-sport athletes. No spots are guaranteed so your impact to the program can be immediate. Every year we keep between 30 and 35 players.

Financial aid in the form of academic and need based grants, guaranteed student loans, college work-study and a host of other resources is available to qualified students. You will need to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 1, 2006, for priority consideration. You may obtain this form from your high school counselor or from our financial aid office by calling 253-879-3214 or 800-396-7192. This form is also available online at www.fafsa.org.

To allow us to become more familiar with you and your athleticism, we request you send us a video of your baseball abilities. This video should show all of the skills that are specific to your position(s). If you are visiting our campus, please come by and say hello. We would be happy to answer questions you might have about our program. I wish you continued success both academically and athletically. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to meeting you.

Respectfully,

Brian Billings
